Many People In Phoenix Are Becoming More Confident Because Of Beautiful Smiles

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

If you live in Arizona and are embarrassed by your smile, a Phoenix orthodontist can transform your crocked teeth into a beautiful smile. Whether your smile is not what it should be because of heredity or an accident, orthodontic work can straighten teeth and correct any bite problem. In addition to improving your smile, the work can also increase chewing efficiency and may even prevent headaches.

Prior to just a few years ago, braces meant stainless steel brackets attached to the front of the teeth. Those older braces were very visible when worn. Today, the brackets are much less noticeable. Most are made of porcelain or plastic to match the teeth. In some instances, they are attached to the back of the your teeth for invisible braces.

If your orthodontist deems that braces are appropriate for your case, you may need to wear the braces for anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. For most patients, corrections are made in about a year. After the braces are removed, you will need to wear a retainer to ensure the teeth remain in the corrected position.

Parents should schedule a child’s first visit to the orthodontist before the child turns seven. The doctor will be able to work out a plan for correction of any orthodontic issues. Dental insurance may cover the cost of orthodontic work, but many orthodontists offer payment plans if your insurance does now cover the work.

If you are an adult and your parents were unable to afford orthodontic work, you can still benefit from braces. One of five orthodontic patients today are adults. There is no window of opportunity for orthodontic work. You can still have problems with your teeth corrected.

A Phoenix orthodontist will have three or more years of special training that goes beyond dental school. He is able to correct problems with the teeth that an ordinary dentist cannot. Teeth that are aligned correctly are easier to take care of and more likely to last your entire life.

When your appearance is important to you, a Phoenix orthodontist helps to beautify your smile. You can see success stories and details by visiting http://www.dunn-orthodontics.com .

Invisalign Invisible Braces Are An Alternative To Metal Braces

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

Invisalign invisible braces are a great alternative to traditional braces. These are a clear plastic retainer system used to align teeth. Teens and adults especially prefer them to the metal braces. Now there is a way to correct tooth alignment without the embarrassment that can go along with traditional braces. No one needs to know you have them.

The orthodontist will take many pictures and do a bite impression of the teeth. Both of these are used to make a 3-D model of the mouth. A simulation is then done of the way the alignment will take place over time. Finally the custom fitted plastic retainer trays are created to follow the simulation and the position the teeth should be in.

How many trays are needed depends on how much correction and what type of correction of the teeth is required. On average 18 to 30 trays are made for each person. The trays are worn for two weeks then the next tray in the series is worn another two weeks. This will be done continuously until the teeth are in the correct position. The time these are used is the same as with the metal braces. They are worn 24 hours a day unless the person is eating or the teeth are being cleaned.

When the initial trays are in place there may be some discomfort and some time needed to get used to them being in the mouth. There will not be the pain that comes with metal brackets and wires in the mouth. Wax is often needed on them to keep them from making small tears is the soft tissue. The metal braces need special cleaning. The wires require periodic tightening by the dentist. Sports becomes dangerous without a special mouth guard.

The invisalign invisible braces have none of the problems of the traditional braces. These are made of smooth clear plastic with nothing to cause cuts or irritation. No painful adjustments need to be made. A dental checkup will be necessary to make sure the retainers are doing their job. Unlike with metal braces these can be removed whenever it is necessary.

There are no restricted foods with the invisalign braces. All favorite foods are still on the menu. With traditional braces popcorn and gum are off limits. With invisalign just remove the braces before it is time to eat. Clean the teeth and then replace the tray.

Cleaning the teeth is so much easier with the clear retainer trays. With metal braces there is a chance of tooth decay and discoloration. A special tooth brush is needed as well. With the possibility of food being stuck in them there is the complaint of bad breath. Since the trays with invisalign are removable the teeth can be brushed and flossed as usual.

Realistically the invisalign invisible braces do cost more than traditional metal braces. But most insurance companies will cover them the same as the traditional ones. The final cost is really determined by how many trays are needed. Since they are invisible being able to continue smiling as usual with complete confidence is priceless.

Cosmetic Dental Treatments To Achieve a Movie Star Smile

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Most people would admit to wishing they had a better smile. There aren’t many born with perfect teeth and smiles and now with modern dentistry there are real opportunities for improving your smile. For a lot of people visiting the dentist is a daunting prospect and they would rather go anywhere else! However, modern techniques are as you would expect advanced and implemented with patient care in mind which could be a big change to those who haven’t visited a dentist in the last ten or fifteen years.

Tooth whitening is one of the first treatments most people think of when the subject of cosmetic dentistry comes up; however, there are many more treatments available for boosting smiles. Dental implants for example, are used to fill the gaps left by teeth that have been removed or lost through an accident or disease. There are options available in modern dentistry that simply wouldn’t have been feasible 15 to 20 years ago.

Dental implants and in particular teeth straightening techniques have longer treatment cycles but more often than not the results are well worth the wait. Teeth straightening can involve more complex dental techniques and many people are referred to specialist orthodontists for such treatments.

When people think of teeth straightening they usually immediately think of metal braces. Modern treatments mean that there are now more options available and some are much more discreet. Many adults are afraid of wearing metal braces for a number of reasons, there are now solutions available that utilise clear braces that are difficult to notice but also are very effective and so don’t need to be worn for as long.

Dental implants fill the gaps left by missing teeth, or teeth that have been broken. This is not a particularly new treatment to dentists and orthodontists however, modern techniques mean that the implants can be matched to the colour of your existing teeth. This makes the implant much less obvious and gives a more natural look.

Before you start on any treatment, like the ones mentioned above, if you have any queries or question, don’t be afraid to ask your dentist. The unknown can sometimes be scarier than actually knowing what is happening and an experienced dentist or orthodontist should have no qualms about answering them. Even if you are just a little nervous it can be worth mentioning as they will likely be able to put you somewhat at ease.

Knowing your role as a patient is important to achieve the best results, and this applies to teeth whitening as much as it does to teeth straightening. Having professional teeth whitening then immediately drinking tea and coffee will reduce the effect of the whitening, whereas drinking water or milk will make the effects last longer and keep your teeth in their best condition.
