Cosmetic Dental Treatments To Achieve a Movie Star Smile

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Most people would admit to wishing they had a better smile. There aren’t many born with perfect teeth and smiles and now with modern dentistry there are real opportunities for improving your smile. For a lot of people visiting the dentist is a daunting prospect and they would rather go anywhere else! However, modern techniques are as you would expect advanced and implemented with patient care in mind which could be a big change to those who haven’t visited a dentist in the last ten or fifteen years.

Tooth whitening is one of the first treatments most people think of when the subject of cosmetic dentistry comes up; however, there are many more treatments available for boosting smiles. Dental implants for example, are used to fill the gaps left by teeth that have been removed or lost through an accident or disease. There are options available in modern dentistry that simply wouldn’t have been feasible 15 to 20 years ago.

Dental implants and in particular teeth straightening techniques have longer treatment cycles but more often than not the results are well worth the wait. Teeth straightening can involve more complex dental techniques and many people are referred to specialist orthodontists for such treatments.

When people think of teeth straightening they usually immediately think of metal braces. Modern treatments mean that there are now more options available and some are much more discreet. Many adults are afraid of wearing metal braces for a number of reasons, there are now solutions available that utilise clear braces that are difficult to notice but also are very effective and so don’t need to be worn for as long.

Dental implants fill the gaps left by missing teeth, or teeth that have been broken. This is not a particularly new treatment to dentists and orthodontists however, modern techniques mean that the implants can be matched to the colour of your existing teeth. This makes the implant much less obvious and gives a more natural look.

Before you start on any treatment, like the ones mentioned above, if you have any queries or question, don’t be afraid to ask your dentist. The unknown can sometimes be scarier than actually knowing what is happening and an experienced dentist or orthodontist should have no qualms about answering them. Even if you are just a little nervous it can be worth mentioning as they will likely be able to put you somewhat at ease.

Knowing your role as a patient is important to achieve the best results, and this applies to teeth whitening as much as it does to teeth straightening. Having professional teeth whitening then immediately drinking tea and coffee will reduce the effect of the whitening, whereas drinking water or milk will make the effects last longer and keep your teeth in their best condition.

Dental medicine has moved on in the last years. Advantages Manual And Electric Toothbrushes Have Over Not Brushing At All

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

My electric toothbrush is what I use at home. When I am away from home I pack my manual toothbrush. Whichever I use I make sure I brush well. I do not want a tooth problem and I do not like a lecture from my hygienist. Some advantages manual and electric toothbrushes have may assist in your decision on which to use.

The less expensive choice of course is the regular old fashioned manual toothbrush. If finances are an issue stick with the traditional brush. If you travel regularly you find the manual one is easier to pack.

You can take the electric toothbrush without the charger if you charge it up and it will run for a few days before needing to be recharged. Of course you can always pack the charger if you like. If you are going to be gone for longer than a week you will need to take your charger with you.

Of course the most crucial part of brushing is not which brush you use but the time you spend brushing. Even if you have an electric toothbursh this does not mean you have done a better job of brushing than if you used a manual toothbrush. Some might think they do not have to brush as often because they use an electric toothbrush. No you still have to brush after meals, in the morning, and before bed.

I like however the fact that I can stimulate or massage my gums with my electric toothbrush. Of course I can do this with my regular toothbrush but it seems like my electric brush has an advantage in this regard. When you massage or stimulate your gums you get the blood flowing which promotes healthy gums. As far as the amount of pressure is concerned a manual toothbrush is better when determining the amount of pressure you apply.

Too much pressure on your teeth will cause your enamel to wear down. Tooth decay is prevented by your enamel. Once you wear that down you open up your teeth to decay. You can control the pressure better with a regular tooth brush than an electric tooth brush because you cannot judge pressure as well with the electric type.

When teaching kids how to brush you will want to start them off on a manual brush until they can handle an electric type. I am sure you learned to brush your teeth with a manual brush. And regardless of which type you choose you want to floss regularly. This is most people’s least favorite part of tooth care but you need to do it.

You do not have to floss all your teeth only the ones you want to keep is what my hygienist used to say. And you do not want to run your tooth brush over your teeth right after drinking soda, regular of diet. The acid in the soft drink will wear your enamel down when you run your brush over your soda soaked teeth. Dental care is an important part of your overall health, some people may consider the flouride treatment as it will also protect your teeth for a longer period of time. All in all, it is important to make use of whichever tooth brush you choose.

Dentist London Ontario offers clients a radiant smile. Cosmetic dentist London Ontario helps to straighten teeth, while removing excess stains. By receiving a fluoride treatment, clients will experience whiter teeth for a longer period of time.

What Teeth Whitening Technique Gets The Best Results?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

The first thing people notice when we smile is our teeth. Everyone loves sporting a nice set of pearly white teeth. Unfortunately, food, beverages, and such activities as smoking, can cause severe teeth staining making them look unattractive. More people are now turning to teeth whitening products to whiten their teeth. There are many products available that range from very cheap to quite expensive. Whitening strips, gels, and toothpastes are treatments available that one can use at home. Results have been good, but the whitening does not last long. The best product to whiten teeth is laser teeth whitening.

Laser teeth whitening is one of many available dental whitening procedures that are performed by dentists. It is quick, safe, and a very effective method of teeth whitening with proven results.

The laser whitening treatment begins with a meticulous cleaning of the patients teeth. A laser whitening gel is then applied to the teeth. This whitening gel contains a greater bleaching agent in comparison to the gel used in the over-the-counter tooth whitening products, which produces improved results. The gel is applied to the teeth for about twenty five minutes and this application is normally performed two or three times during the procedure. After the whitening gel has been applied, the dentist utilizes a high intensity laser that is used to penetrate the teeth enamel. This procedure will bleach the teeth. The results can be seen immediately after the procedure. Depending on the patient’s teeth shade and condition, laser teeth whitening can whiten teeth up to 8 shades.

Laser teeth whitening can take about one to two hours to perform in a dentists office. There will be no negative effects on the gum tissue. Patients have reported mild sensitivity which quickly goes away after two or three days. Laser teeth whitening produces better and faster results compared to other teeth whitening products. It is also faster as you start seeing the whitening results after an hour.

Costs of laser teeth whitening will vary greatly depending on the specific procedure performed, the condition of ones teeth, and where you live. In general you can expect to pay somewhere between several hundred to several thousand dollars.

An accumulation of stains on the teeth can be unappealing and cause people to feel apprehensive about showing off their smile. This often leads to low self-esteem. Fortunately, there are now a number of whitening products on the market that offer varying degrees of tooth whitening results. When choosing a particular teeth whitening product, it is essential to understand the effectiveness of each one. A dentist can fill you in on the pros and cons of each product.

The process of laser teeth whitening works by removing materials and stains from the tooth enamel. It is currently one of the most effective methods of whitening your teeth. Whitening your teeth will leave you with a brighter and sparkling smile that will catch the attention of all when you reveal your new and improved smile.
